Join us for an immersive weekend of sculpting with visiting Italian artists Vanessa Carlesso Bortignon and Marco Maculan.
Over two days, you’ll be guided through the process of creating your own clay bust using traditional figurative modelling techniques. Set in our relaxed studio environment, this workshop is designed to be both inspiring and approachable. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand your practice.
You’ll learn how to observe and interpret the human face, working step-by-step to build form, structure, and expression in clay.
What You’ll Learn
Facial proportions & anatomy - understand the key measurements and structures that define the human head
Hand-building modelling techniques - use simple, tactile methods to create form, texture, and emotion
Working with armatures - learn how to use a pre-prepared wooden support to build your sculpture with confidence
Hollowing techniques - prepare your piece for firing by safely hollowing your form
Workshop Details
Two consecutive days: Saturday & Sunday, 9:30am–3pm
All materials provided. Just bring yourself!
Please bring a black & white printed reference image (front and side profile recommended)
Vanessa and Marco will demonstrate the final steps required to prepare your sculpture for firing. From there, you’re welcome to take your piece home to continue refining, or book into one of our studio Mud Club sessions to finish at your own pace.
Pieces can be returned to the studio for bisque firing when ready.
Bisque fire is included. Glaze firing is available as an optional extra ($25).
Class Breakdown
Class runs for 5 hours each day, with a 30 minute lunch break.
Great for beginners and those with experience wanting to expand their skills.
The max capacity for this class is 10ppl to help create a more intimate and focused learning environment.

The class is non-refundable but can be transferred to someone else if unable to attend and we are notified 24hrs in advanced.
